Lon Mercier![]() Beginning with drawings in graphite, he fulfilled a long time dream, and made the transition to painting in egg tempera. This ancient and difficult medium was perfected by the Italian masters. One of the notable American painters working in egg tempera today is Andrew Wyeth. EducationLon completed his undergraduate studies at Portland State University, OR, then went on to successfully complete programs at Lewis and Clark College, OR, and the University of Strasbourg, France. He holds a certificate in French. AwardsSince his move into art, Lon has participated in numerous juried art shows throughout the Northwest. He has received a variety of awards, including the Gold Medal for best painting at the Pendleton (OR) Round-Up Art Show, and in the 1990s was awarded first place in the nation for his tempera works by The Artist's Magazine and American Artist in their annual national competition. Lon continues to create new images in his studio, and is a member of the Society of Tempera Painters.
